Texas Christian University School of Education Fort Worth, Texas

Texas Christian University’s J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation Education Complex is housed in a classical Beaux Arts structure called the Bailey Building which anchors the southern end of the original campus quadrangle. Built in 1914, the Bailey Building had undergone multiple renovations to accommodate the growing campus needs. OMNIPLAN was engaged to assess the condition of the buildings mechanical and electrical systems as well as determining its role as an expanded complex for the School.

Analysis showed that much of the Bailey Building was sound structurally, but needed much work to upgrade the mechanical and electrical systems as well as permitting for today’s building and accessibility codes. A scheme was developed to restore the building to its original stature to allow for a connecting structure to a new 3-story building to the west. Both the new building and its connecting link were carefully designed to be respectful of the older, stately architecture of the Bailey Building. The addition provided additional office space for the Education Faculty as well as classrooms.
